Yochibei was the father-in-law of Kanpei, who had been one of the samurai retainers of Lord Enya. Kanpei had failed to prevent his master from committing the attack that led to his death, so he was shamed into retiring to the life of a hunter.In the background Kanpei the hunter meets by chance another one of Lord Enyas samurai retainers Yagor?, who tells Kanpei that he can buy his way back into the honorable samurai fellowship. Hearing this, Kanpeis father-in-law Yochibei secretly sells his daughter, Kanpeis beloved wife Okaru, into prostitution. While returning home with the money, Yochibei is murdered and robbed, as seen in the foreground. "
