Memorandum To: Superintendent, Gettysburg From: Acting Regional Director, Northeast Region Subject: Proposed Memorial Design by Donald DeLue Enclosed is a copy of Assistant Director Thompson’s memorandum of July 9 in answer to ours of June 23 suggesting that a discussion be held with the United Daughters of the Confederacy in an effort to reach an agreement on the proposed inscription pertaining to the last surviving Confederate veteran and the list of states comprising the Confederate States of America. Please keep us posted on arrangements for this meeting an if you consider it desirable and helpful we will be glad to have a representative from the Regional Office in attendance.
