Description
English: Adalaj Stepwell, locally known as Adalaj ni vav, is a five-storey stepwell was built by Queen Rudabai in 1499. The stepwell is located in the quiet village of Adalaj and served as a resting place for travelers along their trade routes.

The image captures the breathtaking view of the stepwell from inside and the intricate sandstone sculptures on the walls of each storey.

The unique construction of the stepwell and only a brief opening on the top allows light to enter the structure only in some parts of the day making the interiors of the structure about six degrees cooler than the outer temperature. The structure is a commonplace for several birds in the area and the atmosphere inside makes it a place of spiritual refuge along with cultural and utilitarian space.
