Bahasa Indonesia: Adat Istiadat mempunyai ikatan dan pengaruh yang kuat dalam masyarakat. Begitu pula dengan komunitas adat Dayak Kabupaten Kutai Barat yang secara turun-temurun dalam alami telah menciptakan nilai-nilai dan aturan-aturan kearifan lokal yang menjadi pedoman dalam menjalankan aktivitas kehidupan sehar-hari. Ruskanya moral atau bergesernya nilai-nilai budaya disebabkan oleh kurangnya pengaruh hukum adat. Oleh karena itu, hukum adat tidak hanya mempersatukan dan mendamaikan tapi juga menyembuhkan penyakit masyarakat. Dengan membuat sanksi adat yang adil dan sesuai, hukum adat dapat mengatasi persoalan premanisme dan bentuk kekerasan lainnya. Untuk itu, diperlukan fungsionaris adat yang berwibawa serta peran pemerintah untuk menjaga menegakkan hukum adat yang masih berlaku. Masyarakat Dayak Bahau di Kecamatan Tering masih mempertahankan adat dan hukum adat sampai saat ini. Hukum adat di Bahau berfungsi untuk mengatur dan menjadi pedoman dalam berinteraksi serta berfungsi sebagai identitas kelompok, melestarikan pengetahuan tradisional masyarakat hingga menjaga ketertiban dan tatanan sosial. Adapun, perkawinan adalah adat yang menempati posisi paling tinggi. Adat perkawinan masyrakat Jerang Melayu Kutai berkaitan dengan proses awal, terdiri dari beberapa rangkaian adat, sesudah perkawinan dan hukum adat warisan. Ada beberapa jenis perkawinan yang dikenal masyarakat Kutai seperti kawin gantung, perkawinan poligami, perkawinan lari bersama, dan perkawinan darurat. Perkawinan apabila dilakukan secara adat akan melalui prosesi adat yang cukup panjang, berbeda dengan masa sekarang yang dilaksanakan lebih sederhana, tapi tidak menyampingkan nilai-nilai tradisi sehingga dilaksanakan sesuai situasi, kondisi, dan kemampuan yang ada, serta sesuai kesepatan kedua belah pihak.
English: Customs associated and gives some influences in society. Likewise, traditional community of Dayaknese in West Kutai District which has been hereditary in nature, has created the values and rules of local wisdom that serve as guidelines in carrying out daily life activities. Moral damage or shift in cultural values are caused by lack of influence of customary law. Therefore, customary law not only unites and reconciles but also heals people's ills. By making customary sanctions in a fair and appropriate way, the customary law could overcome the problem of thuggery and other kinds of violence. For this reason, an authoritative traditional functionary is needed and also the role of the government to enforce customary law that still applies. Dayaknese of Bahau community in Tering still maintains customs and customary law up to now. Customary law in Bahau serves to regulate and guide interaction and its function is as the group identity, preserving traditional knowledge of the community and maintaining social order. Meanwhile, marriage is the custom that occupies the highest position. The traditional marriage of the Kutai Melayu Jerang community is related to the initial process, consisting of a series of customs, after marriage and inheritance customary law. There are several types of marriages that are known to the people of Kutai, such as hanging marriage, polygamy marriage, lari bersama marriages, and emergency marriages. Marriage if done traditionally will go through a fairly long procession of customs. In contrast to the present which is carried out more simply, but does not override traditional values so that it is carried out according to the situation, conditions and capabilities, and according to the agreement of both parties.
