Description
English: Adderley Lock No 5 south of Audlem, Shropshire This is the Adderley Bottom Lock. Its top gate is open ready to admit a narrowboat into the lock chamber from the left. Having closed the gate, the lock man will raise the gate paddles at the other end to empty the lock, and the boat will be navigated forward to continue its journey towards Audlem Locks (fifteen of them!) not far ahead. The hawthorn blossom (May flower) on the trees by the canal is very prolific. On the Shropshire Union Canal, there are five locks in the flight at Adderley, altogether altering the water level by thirty-one feet ( about nine and a half metres) in a distance of about five hundred metres.
