Description
English: Real photo postcard showing some rulers of the states of the Aden Protectorate with British navy and army officers aboard a British warship, probably at the end of World War I.

In the front row, center, is Ghalib I bin Awadh Al-Qu'aiti, the sultan of the Qu'aiti state of Shihr and Mukalla (ruled 1909–1922). On the right is Abd al-Karim II ibn al-Fadl al-'Abdali, the sultan of the Abdali state of Lahej (ruled 1915–1947). Shihr and Mukalla, and Lahej, were the two major states of the Aden Protectorate.

The photo was probably taken in 1918 following the departure of the Turks and the reinstatement of the rulers who had fled to Aden when the Turks invaded and occupied Lahej and several states of the Aden Protectorate (but not the Qu'aiti Sultanate) from 1915 to 1918.
