Aircraft on the deck include, from front to back, (right side): Eight McDonnell Douglas F-4S Phantom II aircraft from fighter squadrons VF-151 Vigilantes (NF-2XX, striped rudder) and VF-161 Chargers (NF-1XX, red lightning); three Grumman EA-6B Prowler aircraft from electronic warfare squadron VAQ-136 Gauntlets (NF-604 to -607); eight Grumman A-6E/KA-6D Intruder of attack squadron VA-115 Eagles; three Grumman E-2B Hawkeye aircraft from airborne early warning squadron VAW-115 Liberty Bells (NF-600 to -603); Planes on the left side include nine Vought A-7E Corsair II aircraft from VA-93 Ravens (NF-3XX) and VA-56 Champions (NF-4XX). Three Sikorsky SH-3G Sea King helicopter from helcicopter combat support squadron HC-1 Det.2 Pacific Fleet Angels are next to the island and between the catapults (NF-61X); the second plane aft of the crane is the carrier's COD Grumman C-1A Trader (NF-700, with the US flag). The aircraft are painted in various camouflage schemes. The box located on Midway´s port side aft is a Mk 26 Sea Sparrow launcher. |
