Description Aerial view of the Fighter 2 (Kukum) airfield on Guadalcanal, in Feburary 1943. Construction was underway in December 1942, and U.S. Marine Corps Fighting Squadron VMF-124 was the first to land at Fighter 2 on 12 February 1943. The photo was taken from a Grumman J2F Duck utility plane.
