| Description | Georgia Army Guard Brig. Gen. Larry Dudney (left) – now director of the Georgia Department of Defense Joint Staff – meets Sheik Nasir in the Dhi-Qar Province, Afghanistan. With them is another local leader, Sheik Mohammed Al Tai. Dudney, who commanded Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix IX and was director of the Afghan National Security Forces Development Assistance Bureau in Kabul from 2009 to 2010, was in Dhi-Qar along with Georgia’s 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team – more specifically, with the brigade’s 648th Engineer Battalion – which was conducting a humanitarian assistance mission at the time. Battalion Soldiers, who were making school desks for the students of a local school, also provided them school supplies, book bags and clothing. |
