e are eight ecclesiastical organizationscomposed of colored churches in these thirteenSouthern States. The present number of Con-gregationalists in the United States is morethan 600,000 white and colored. Congregationalministers number about 5,500, and churches thesame. Eight colleges, six normal schools andsixty grammar and graded schools are in opera-tion in the South, under the auspices of theAmerican Missionary Association, for the edu-cation of colored youth. About 10,000 pupilsattend them ;yearly. The association is Con-gregational. Its work is non-sectarian.
