English: Photograph of thimble used by Marcela Agoncillo when she sewed the first Philippine flag. Thimble presently on display at Malacanang Museum, City of Manila, Philippines. Photo personally taken by uploader on 26 October 2007,3:18 pm (local time), at Malacanang Museum. Image cropped from the original by uploader using GIMP on 30 December 2007.
Mrs. Renee Frial Faeldonea, whose name is mentioned on the engraved caption to the thimble, is a daughter of Maura Agoncillo Frial, a niece of Dona Marcela. Maura is one of a 10 known Agoncillo siblings who are nieces and nephews of Don Felipe. Maura Agoncillo married Adolfo Frial of the Frial Clan of Dumalag, Capiz and Dona Marcela gave one of the thimbles she used during the making of the first Philippine Flag to Maura. To this day, there is a thriving branch of the Agoncillo family surnamed Frial and other paternal surnames based in Capiz and migrated to the United States, and other parts of the World. Mrs. Renee Frial Faeldonea gave the thimble as a token gift to Imelda Marcos during the Marcos years. As Don Felipe Agoncillo and Dona Marcela's daughters all died without heirs, there is no direct line descended from the prominent couple. |
