English: Members of the Air Force’s 45th Operations Group Detachment 3 , Patrick AFB, Fla., and the 88th Test and Evaluation Squadron, Nellis AFB, Nev., pose with NASA Astronaut Suni Williams after testing and evaluating support equipment at the Hydro Impact Basin at NASA's Langley Research Center in after completing a practice session with a mock-up of a Boeing CST-100 Starliner. Det. 3, from Patrick AFB, Fla., coordinates Department of Defense contingency support for America’s human space flight programs. Detachment 3 was chartered in 1959 by the Secretary of Defense as the DoD Mercury Support Office [later renamed DoD Manned Space Flight Support Office (DDMS)], its express purpose is providing DoD support to our nation's human space flight programs, putting people into space and returning them safely to Earth.
