Description

c/n unknown. Built in June 1918, D5649 was assigned to 110 Squadron as a training aircraft, but never delivered. Instead, she was held in store until transferred to the Indian State of Bikaner, under the Imperial Gift Aid Scheme. Amazingly, two Indian DH9s survived through the years by having been stored at the Imperial Fort and Royal Palace Bikaner. Recently discovered, they were purchased by Aero Vintage Ltd and returned to the UK, although I imagine that the process for doing so was far from simple! Beautifully restored, she is now on display in the ‘AirSpace’ hangar at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
