Summary

edit
Description A U.S. Navy Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat of Fighter Squadron 151 (VF-151) is loaded aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer (CV-21) at Naval Air Station Alameda, California (USA). VF-151 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 19 (CVG-19) aboard the Boxer for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 11 January to 13 June 1950. CVG-19 operated four squadrons of Bearcats. The carrier returned just two weeks before the outbreak of the Korean War. By the time, Boxer returned to Korea in August 1950, the F8Fs had been replaced with Vought F4U-4 Corsairs. Thus, the F8F missed a combat deployment. In the foreground is a Douglas AD-3 Skyraider from Attack Squadron 195 (VA-195) "Dambusters".
