Description U.S. Navy aircraft from Attack Carrier Air Wing 7 (CVW-7) taking off for an Alpha Strike from the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CVA-62) in the Gulf of Tonkin during that carrier's deployment to Vietnam from 10 May to 13 December 1965. A McDonnell F-4B-14-MC Phantom II (BuNo 150491) from Fighter Squadron 41 "Black Aces" has just been launched from one of the waist catapults. Douglas A-4E Skyhawk aircraft from Attack Squadron VA-72 "Blue Hawks" (BuNo 150007) and VA-86 "Sidewinders" (BuNo 151149, unknown) are visible in the foreground. The A-4E 151149 was destroyed on the ground during a Vietcong mortar attack on Chu Lai air base, Vietnam, on 21 March 1969 while in service with Marine Corps Attack Squadron VMA-311.
