Summary edit

Description
English: Aircrew memorial seat, Polar Wood Near to this spot are the sites of Dorset's two worst air disasters, which both happened during the Second World War. In 1939 three airmen were killed on a training flight when their Mk 1 Swordfish clipped treetops and nose-dived. Later, in June 1945, an RAF Liberator transport plane emerged from low cloud and plunged into the ground killing all 27 on board. In October 2007 this Purbeck stone memorial bench was unveiled as part of a memorial service attended by friends and relatives of the servicemen who died in these two accidents. The stone wall behind it is on the edge of Polar Wood.
