English: The Aiwa L22, BASF D6635, Uher CG305 and Wega 205C were mechanically and electrically identical, baby-sized cassette decks released in 1979-1980 on the European market. They were parts of four likewise identical "component stacks" (Uher Paco, Wega Minimodul 205 etc.). Excluding faux rack handles (Aiwa) and mounting hardware (Uher), each measured 205x67x205 mm; the Uher and Aiwa were 235 mm wide. At this point in time, Aiwa and Wega were subsidiaries of Sony; Uher was an independent German company moving from in-house manufacturing to OEM contracts, and BASF was BASF. They still carried a line of low- and mid-fi components sourced from various Japanese OEM makers. Who did actually built these tiny decks? probably Aiwa. They continued building similar decks into 1982-1983 while others dropped it afted 1980. Note that Sony did not sell anything like this, at least in Europe (they had a rival, quite different FH series). Not that the BASF deck clearly lacks labeling on two buttons - they actually omitted it in catalogue photos. |
