Alex Reynolds, age 26, swam in La Jolla Cove Swim Club’s Pier to Cove Swim held Saturday, June 25, 2016. The 1.5-mile (2.5 kilometers) swim started on the north side of Scripps Pier and finished at La Jolla Cove. Reynolds of San Diego, CA, wore bib 337 and swam in the Swim Non-regulation event, Male 25-29 division. Reynolds completed the swim in 00:42:35 (hh🇲🇲ss) with a split time of 01:37/100 yd (mm:ss/100 yd). Athletes were ranked by division, event, sex and overall. Alex Reynolds’s rankings were as follows: In the Male 25-29 division, Alex ranked second out of nine male swimmers. In the Swim Non-regulation event, Alex ranked fifth out of 84 participants. Alex placed 29th amid 133 male athletes. Alex Reynolds finished 42nd amongst a total of 238 swimmers in all categories. Swimmers were divided into three categories: swim regulation, swim non-regulation and swim police/fire. Regulation swimmers swam according to United States Masters Swimming (USMS) rules that allow neoprene swim caps but ban rash guards. Non-regulation swimmers can use rash guards, wetsuits, fins, masks and snorkels but not scooters or sails. Large waves and seaweed at La Jolla Cove made for a challenging Pier to Cove Swim but sunny, warm weather awaited the swimmers at the end along with their event T-shirt and hot food from Duke’s Restaurant. San Diego Lifeguards provided support including a boat, jet ski and paddleboards.
