Description
Nederlands: Alfons De Ceulaerde was de schoonvader van Johanna Van Dingenen. Alfons ging nog vele jaren met zijn schoondochter en zijn zoon naar de herdenkingen in Brussel. Alfons was soldaat gedurende vier jaar. Hij was in zijn laatste maand legerdienst bij het begin van de oorlog in 1914. Alfons mocht dus niet afzwaaien. Hij werd getroffen door een kogel in de buik. Alfons werd overgebracht naar Brighton. Van zodra hij genzezen was moest hij terug naar het front. Zijn vrouw kwam hem opzoeken met hun kind dat toen één jaar was. Zijn vrouw sprak geen Engels. Met dit bezoek waren de ouders niet akkoord maar zij is toch gegaan omdat haar zuster haar wou vergezellen. Toen zij in Engeland waren moesten ze blijven tot de oorlog voorbij was. Alfons vertelde veel over de oorlog; over gevechten van man tegen man, enz.. Hij was een kleine man en was heel fier op zijn prestaties. Alfons stond bij de Brabançonne steeds fier recht. Hij werd bevangen door gas aan het front en moest hierdoor altijd heel zwaar hoesten.
