Description
Español: Retrato imaginario del rey Alfonso IX de León (1171-1230). Fue hijo del rey Fernando II de León y de la reina Urraca de Portugal. A lo largo de su reinado tuvo numerosos conflictos y tensiones con su primo Alfonso VIII de Castilla. Debido a estos, estuvo ausente en la batalla de las Navas de Tolosa, librada en 1212, pese a lo cual realizó una gran actividad de reconquista, recuperando para la Cristiandad las ciudades de Cáceres, Mérida y Badajoz, y en general toda la mitad oeste de la actual Comunidad Autónoma de Extremadura.
