Description

"All out" is the signal that's sent to a winch operator to start pulling the aircraft rapidly, up to a suitable speed to fly. In a couple of seconds there's enough speed to make a steep climb to about 1000 ft.

Takeoff at the Scottish Gliding Union, Portmoak, Fife, Scotland, in 1981.

Initially someone needs to run alongside to stop a wing from dropping. As speed builds up rapidly the flight controls become active and support is no longer needed.
