Summary

edit
Description
English: A section of old masonry in All Saints' Church, Dale Abbey, Derbyshire. The plain Norman moulding suggests an early 12th century date for the original building, possible evidence that it was established by a hermit from Derby who settled at Deepdale in that period. Said to have been used a little later by the aunt of Serlo de Grendon, known as the Gomme (godmother) of the Dale, who installed her son Richard as chaplain.
