Description
English: All Saints church in East Winch, Norfolk - C15 baptismal font. The octagonal font was given by Sir John Howard of East Winch, or his son Robert, and dates from the 15th century. The original font cover is lost, this modern replacement was designed by church architect Ninian Comper - a near copy of the medieval original, drawn by Henry Lilly in 1637, collection of Duke of Norfolk. (see image in Robinson, John Martin, The Dukes of Norfolk, Oxford, 1982, p.3). Arms of Howard; Scales; Ufford quartering Willoughby; Arms of Bishop of Ely: Gules, three ducal coronets or.

The church of all Saints > 1742875 stands on a slight elevation immediately south of the busy A47 road. It was built during the 14th and 15th centuries and extensively restored in the late 1900s. The south porch > 1742881 is original C15 and built of brick, with brick window tracery. The chancel is not quite in line with the nave and has an east window by Clayton and Bell > 1742892 and the west window is by Bell and Hardiman > 1742923. Most of the memorials here commemorate members of the Kent family. Roof and pews in the aisles > 1742907 date from the 15th century, the pews are cordoned off because they are no longer safe to sit in. Two medieval stone coffin lids > 1742918 can be found in the north aisle beside what remains of the rood screen: three panels painted green and red with stencilled floral designs > 1742911.
