| Description |
English: All Souls, Haley Hill, Akroyden Akroyden was a Model Village Development begun by Col Edward Akroyd the local textile manufacturer in 1855. 350 houses were initially planned but only 92 were built. However, he did build a magnificent Church in the grounds of his mansion "Bankfield House" (now a museum) for which he commissioned, at enormous expense, Sir George Gilbert Scott. It was designed and built in the Decorated Gothic Style and is recognised as his masterpiece. Opened in 1867, the church is no longer used for services and not wanted by the Church of England is now looked after by a private Trust. |
