Summary edit
DescriptionAlpha Virginis.png |
English: Spica (Alpha Virginis) [ ✨ ]
The brightest object in the constellation Virgo 250 ly away - Massive binary where the primary is a variable blue giant and its companion is a blue B2 V main-sequence star - The two stars are so close together they are egg-shaped and can only be separated by their spectra (rotating ellipsoidal variable) - The lack of synchronization between both stars rotation and their period (4 days) indicate that this is a young system where the tidal interaction has not yet synchronized movements - |
