Le bretzel fut, dit-on , inventé par un boulanger d' Ingwiller. Fort aimé des villageois, ce boulanger avait un défaut, il jurait tellement contre le seigneur qu'il fût jeté en prison .En échange de sa liberté, le seigneur lui demanda de faire un gâteau dans lequel on pouvait voir 3 fois le soleil

La forme du bretzel serait en fait liée à un très ancien culte solaire : sa forme d'origine aurait été une croix entourée d'un anneau que le temps et les modes de cuisson auraient dénaturé. Il existe en plusieurs versions : sucré, salé, aromatisé.
