Summary
editDescriptionAlston weir playwave - geograph.org.uk - 1590886.jpg |
English: Alston weir playwave This is a small weir downstream of the main road bridge over the South Tyne at Alston, and it holds no great hazard for canoeists. When the river is up, the weir is washed out and may not even be noticed. At intermediate levels, the stopper in the middle may be beefy, but lines either side give easier passage. It's an obvious spot to look for a playwave, but at the level seen here, which is about as low as you'd want to paddle this section of the river, the wave contains a number of rocks just downstream of the weir and is quite difficult to use. |
