Italiano: "Ritratto di busto femminile.

Amalia Giuseppina (1699-1778), sorella di Francesco III d'Este, nacque a Modena nel 1699 e trascorse quasi tutta la vita con la sorella Benedetta Ernesta soggiornando alternativamente a Venezia, a Bologna, dove le principesse possedevano un palazzo e a Modena. Di Violante Ferroni, allieva di Giovanni Domenico Ferretti (Firenze, 1692-1768) e citata dalle fonti per le sue doti di valente ritrattista, si hanno pochissime notizie; il catalogo delle opere conosciute non va oltre il dipinto in esame e una coppia di ovati, di soggetto religioso, nell'ospedale fiorentino di San Giovanni di Dio.

Il presente ritratto, reso noto dalla Guandalini nel 1987, ricalca i modelli della ritrattistica ufficale e si caratterizza per i colori brillanti e smaltati restituendo della principessa un'effige formalmente corretta ma fredda. Il dipinto fu donato a Laura Camilla Contorni, apparentemente da una famiglia lucchese, ed è quindi possibile che sia stato eseguito durante il soggiorno toscano della principessa."
