Description

Ambrose Akinmusire is voortdurend op zoek naar nieuwe kaders om vervolgens weer uit te breken. Op meesterlijke wijze weeft hij invloeden uit hiphop, modern klassiek, avant pop, spoken word, kunst en pijnlijke maatschappelijke kwesties in zijn experimentele composities. Akinmusire verrast met zijn genre-overstijgende jazz, met zoveel durf en daadkracht dat je er iedere keer weer van achterover slaat.

Hij kreeg les van Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter en Terence Blanchard, won de prestigieuze Thelonious Monk Competition in 2007, werkte samen met Esperanza Spalding, Steve Coleman en Snarky Puppy, was te horen op How To Pimp A Butterfly van Kendrick Lamar en ontving de Paul Acket Award op North Sea Jazz Festival in 2014.

Halverwege oktober verscheen na de goed ontvangen albums When the Heart Emerges Glistening (2011) en The Imagined Savior is Much Easier To Paint (2014), zijn derde Blue Note wapenfeit Origami Harvest.
