English: For the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, AmeriCorps NCCC-FEMA Corps teams Summit 1, Summit 2, and Summit 3 participated in the 5th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Outdoor Learning Trail Cleanup. Keep Columbus GA Beautiful Commission, Turn Around Columbus, and Dragonfly Trail Network - Columbus, GA held the #MLKDayofService event. The FEMA Corps teams served alongside local high schools and community members in Columbus, Georgia, picking up trash along the trail. The FEMA Corps members also learned about various challenges that Columbus faces from talks by community leaders. The community leaders mentioned a youth-run community garden and showed the plots where garden beds would soon be. The purpose of these beds would increase access to nutritious produce in the community and teach valuable skills in agriculture and business to youths. Way to #GetThingsDone, Summit teams! |
