Title
An incomplete post medieval bone gaming piece for the game 'dominos' or 'dominoes', probably dating to the 18th century.
Description
English: An incomplete Post Medieval bone gaming piece for the game 'dominos' or 'dominoes', probably dating to the 18th century. It is a domino of the value of 7 (3 and 4) with 7 drilled circular pits on one side, possibly for black coloured insets. The spacing of the pits is not very regular, the three being close together and the four at a slight angle. The corner of the section with 4 pits is missing, having been broken off, meaning one of the pits is no longer visible.

The earliest domino sets are thought to date from the 13th century and originate in China. The game reached Europe by the 18th century and is thought to derive its name from the French word 'Domino' for a black and white hood worn by Christian priests in winter. A parallel can be found on the PAS database:LANCUM-0F9CD7

Dimensions: length: 32.68 mm; width: 16.73 mm; thickness: 2.14mm; weight: 1.79g.
