the prime object of a switch-valveis to be able to change the temperature of the air,while keeping the quantity of air admitted to theroom constant. When a person closes the ordinaryhot air register of an ordinary heating apparatus tomodify the temperature of the room, he cuts off theair supply^ and this is the great defect in mostindirect heating apparatus. Position of Hkat Registers : The questionis often asked—Where should the warm airregister be in a room ? and this may be answeredbroadly by saying, it matters little where it is,provided it will not cause inconvenience to theoccupants. In private houses, it is generallyplaced near the floor, and of preference, it shouldbe near the coldest side of the house. The floorsystem probably can only be tolerated where theair enters at a comparatively high temperature,and reduced quantity, and for this reason in thecase of schools and hospitals, it is found thatmodern practice always places the register above MfimM^^mE^ St/MAI^/?
