Summary edit

Description

The main attraction of the Pride weekend: the parade.

Many figures from throughout the LGBT spectrum are participating, from throughout the US and beyond.

These ladies, like me, are visiting from Los Angeles. They are transgender activists, who also happen to run their own video production company, Deep Stealth Productions, to help further their advocacy work. Deep Stealth Productions had produced the first-ever dating reality show involving a transgender person, in 2008.

Andrea James also is well known for her websites on transgender resources (Transsexual Road Map) and hair removal (Hair Facts), while Calpernia Addams runs her own website detailing her previous military service and current activism as well. I'm also proud to count them among my valuable personal friends (in fact, they would recognize me in the crowds a few seconds later).

Though I am quite bummed that they, like many others, are riding through the parade on a BMW convertible, considering that BMW is one of the most eager financial and moral supporters of the Vatican and its homophobia. The Vatican was a key player in the passage of Proposition 8, only 7 months earlier in California, which ended legalized gay marriages. Granted, all BMW vehicles for this parade are provided by an LGBT-friendly local dealership rather than BMW North America, but I would have preferred vehicles from a manufacturer better known for support of the LGBT demographic, such as SAAB or Subaru.
