English: The Andromeda Galaxy is the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way. Andromeda has a diameter of about 152,000 light-years and is approximately 2.5 million light-years from Earth.
Subframes for the photo were taken from Estonia. Photo processing technique known as drizzle (2x) has been used to increase the resolution of the original image. Technical details:
Eesti: Fotol meist ümmarguselt 2,5 miljoni valgusaasta kaugusel asuv Andromeeda hiidspiraalgalaktika (M31). Samanimelises tähtkujus silmale uduse laiguna paistev galaktika sisaldab ligemale triljon tähte ning see kuulub koos meie Linnutee ja Kolmnurga galaktikaga (M33) niinimetatud Kohalikku gruppi. Mõõtmised näitavad, et Andromeeda ja Linnutee põrkuvad omavahel mõne miljardi aasta pärast, moodustades kauges tulevikus tõenäoliselt ühe hiiglasliku elliptilise galaktika. Fotol paistab lisaks 150 000 valgusaasta laiusele Andromeedale selle kaks pisemat kääbusgalaktikast kaaslast - ketta "all" udune M110 ja ülal, peaaegu galaktika servas M32.Pildistatud 2023. aasta augustis.
Foto jaoks vajalikud kaadrid on tehtud Eestist Tõrva linnast. Foto resolutsiooni on suurendatud läbi nii-nimetatud drizzle (2x) tehnika. Kasutatud tehnika:
