Français : Étude du groupe de gauche pour les Sept chefs devant Thèbes, peinture présentée par l'artiste au Salon de 1827.
Ultime chef-d’œuvre d’une carrière hors-norme, Les Sept chefs devant Thèbes (huile sur toile ; 1826 ; H : 3,23, L : 4,25 m. ; Angers, musée des Beaux-Arts), présenté au Salon de 1827, constituent l’œuvre la plus ambitieuse de l’artiste. Le sujet martial est prétexte à la représentation de deux nus masculins, l’un de face et l’autre de dos. Ce dessin préparatoire présente quelques variations par rapport à la toile finale exposée au Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Angers, témoignant du processus de création de l'artiste et de sa réflexion menée autour de chaque détail.
