Les racines adventives des rhi- zomes de Pulmonaria (fîg. 3) ont un nombre de faisceaux assez variable ; ce nombre est d'ail- leurs en général en rapport avec le diamètre de la racine. Chez les racines de petit calibre, le nombre des faisceaux peut des- cendre à trois et même quelque- fois à deux; chez celles qui sont mieux développées, il est le plus fréquemment de cinq, six ou sept faisceaux. L'écorce est extrêmement pa- renchymateuse. Elle a une épaisseur considérable, relati- vement au diamètre du cylindre central ; les cellules dont elle est formée, disposées en assises assez régulières, sont toutes de grande dimension. Elles sont arrondies, et laissent entre elles de nombreux méats
