Deutsch: 1905 oder später hergestellte Ansichtskarte mit einer möglicherweise älteren Aufnahme eines anonymen Fotografen. Zu sehen ist die Kreuzung, eigentlich ein sternförmiger Platz, der damalige Steintorplatz, an sternförmig abzweigenden Straßen: Georgstraße links zweigt die Schmiedestraße ab, rechts die Kanalstraße und in der Mitte leicht nach rechts die damalige Nordmannstraße. Zeitgleich finden sich auf den Schienen der Straßenbahn elektrische Wagen der Linien 8, 9, 11 und 19, letztere Richtung Vahrenwald. Dazwischen kreuzt eine Pferdekutsche in Richtung Kanalstraße. Die Szene wird zudemwohl mit zum Teil fast als Gewühl zu erkennenden mehr als 100 Menschen belebt. Ein Automobil ist jedoch noch nicht zu erkennen. Das zweite Haus von rechts bot die "Stiefel-Ecke" Schuhwaren von August Palow. Ganz rechts ist die durchgehende Markise des 1903 oder 1905 eröffneten Herren- und Knaben-Bekleidungshauses Ernst Zeyn zu sehen, dessen Kaufhaus im Jugendstil sich laut einer Eigenwerbung bis in das Jahr 1924 als
etabliert hatte.Auf der Fotografie ist unter anderem das Angebot für die nur den Reichen mögliche Tropenkleidung eben für Reisen in die Tropen zu sehen. Im von Ernst Zeyn dann bald verschlafenen Zug einer neuen Zeit - zu Beginn der Weimarer Republik hatte die Frauen immerhin das Wahlrecht bekommen - war das Haus schon im Folgejahr 1925 von der holländischen Firma C & A übernommen worden, das dann sofort und ‚nahezu konkurrenzlos‘ als eines der ersten Häuser am Ort Kleidung für die ganze Familie“ bot, und zwar billig ... |
