Notes | Possibly a decoration of a triumphal gate. Personifications of Polish lands are paying tribute to supported by Mars and Minerva and trampling Polish enemies, King Charles X Gustavus of Sweden. Previously identified as a allegorical portrait of John II Casimir Vasa after the Battle of Berestechko. Charles X Gustav quite fast obtained the reputation of the "brigand of Europe" (rozbójnik Europy), as he was called by his adversary, Stefan Czarniecki, "who was capable of beginning horrors of war in any part of the old continent". | |||||||||||||||||||||||
