| Description |
Monarch butterfly, Danaus plexippus, tagged at 12th Street Tunnel entrance, Washington, DC, USA. 10 October 2012. We tagged these butterflies for Monarch Watch, a U. S. citizen science project that tracks the path and survivorship of migrating monarchs. There's an email and toll-free number on the tag that people can contact when a tagged butterfly is observed dead or alive. Volunteers are also looking for tagged butterflies at the overwintering sites in Mexico. Over 16,000 tagged butterflies have been recovered since the project started in 1992. If you see a tagged monarch, please take a picture of it or note down the code on the last line of the tag and email it to tag@ku.edu or call 1-888-TAGGING. |
