Summary
editDescriptionAntelope Valley Limestone (Middle Ordovician; Meiklejohn Peak, near Beatty, Nevada, USA).jpg |
English: Ohio State University geology graduate students climbing Meiklejohn Peak in Nevada. The rocks are part of the Ordovician-aged Antelope Valley Limestone.
Normally, the Nevada desert is a pretty toasty warm place. This field trip occurred in December 2001, when temperatures got fairly chilly. I recall a pretty brisk wind this day. Later that trip, we visited Death Valley, California, where temperatures were only in the 70s Fahrenheit. In summertime, Death Valley reaches temperatures in the 110s. Stratigraphy: lower Antelope Valley Limestone, Pogonip Group, lower Whiterockian Series, lower Middle Ordovician (sensu traditio) Locality: Meiklejohn Peak, ~9 air-kilometers east-southeast of the town of Beatty, southern Nye County, southern Nevada, USA (36° 52' 50.22" North latitude, 116° 39’ 55.29" West longitude) |
