Summary
editDescriptionAnthony Carlino House, Amherst, New York - 20211023.jpg |
English: The Anthony Carlino House, 105 Garland Drive, Amherst, New York, October 2021. The namesake architect (1906-1981) both designed and, until his death, lived in this 1949 home in a newly suburbanizing section of Amherst, which attracted a considerable share of attention (and earned its way onto a tour of area Modernist homes offered by Radcliffe College, and earned itself a merit award from the Western New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects) with its sleek lines and angles, horizontal ribbons of floor-to-ceiling windows imbuing the interior with a roomy feel and ample natural lighting, a striking stable-like carport in the rare (since demolished) with trellis beams atop, and a then-state-of-the-art double-cantilever construction which obviated the need for structural beams or columns of any kind. |
