English: Barye has treated a favorite subject of the 18th-century painter Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755). The small scale of the piece, the delicacy of the details, and the manner in which light reflects off the irregular surfaces recall the decorative works of 18th-century silversmiths.
