Description

c/n 0402406 (visible at the base of the fin) NATO codename:- Cat The An-10 was a four-engined passenger airliner based on the twin-engined An-8. Named ‘Ukraina’ by Antonov, a total of 109 was built. The later An-10A could seat a maximum of 132 passengers, roughly the same as a Boeing 737-200. In passenger service with Aeroflot from July 1959, they remained in service until a fatal crash in 1972 was found to have been caused by fatigue cracks in the wings, after which the entire fleet was grounded. 25 aircraft flew a further two years service with the military before the type was finally retired permanently in 1974. Very few now survive. This example was built in 1961 and retired in August 1973. Central Air Force museum, Monino, Moscow Oblast, Russia.
