Summary edit

Description
English: Approach to Whitwell Station This is the view travellers from Norwich would once have seen on approaching Whitwell Station. In 1882 two railway stations opened at Reepham and Whitwell - Whitwell station, having formed part of the Norwich City to Melton Constable leg of the M&GN which ran for a total of 21.5 miles, was closed in 1959. After years of lying derelict it was acquired by the newly formed Whitwell & Reepham Railway Preservation Society Limited with the aim of restoring the station, acquiring rolling stock and to set up a museum. By September 2008 130 metres of track had been laid and with work still ongoing, the station was re-opened to the public in February 2009 on occasion of the 50th anniversary of the closure of the M&GN (Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway). From end of March onwards weekends we will be open from 10am to 6pm - with steam engine 'Annie' running every first Sunday from midday onwards - and coffee, tea and some food will be served. http://www.whitwellstation.com/default.asp
