한국어: 김중업은 한국 현대건축을 대표하는 1세대 건축가이다. 1942년부터 약 2년 간 고쿄의 마쓰다 히라타 설계사무소에서 건축실무업무를 하였다. 1944년 귀국 후 서울대학교, 한양대학교, 이화여자대학교, 숙명여자대학교에서 강의를 하였다. 1952년 이탈리아 베니스에서 열린 유네스코 주최 제1회 국제예술가대회에 한국대표로 참석하였다. 이를 계기로 세계적인 건축가 르 코르뷔지에(Le Corbusier)를 만나 한국인 최초로 르 코르뷔지에의 파리 건축사무실 "아틀리에 르 코르뷔지에"에서 근무하였다. 이곳에서 르 코르뷔지에의 건축 프로젝트에 참여하여 총 326건의 도면을 설계하였다. 1956년 귀국하여 종로구 관훈동에 "김중업 아틀리에"를 열고 홍익대학교 건축학과 교수로 임명되었으며 1957년 4월 그의 건축작업을 한 데 모은 전시 김중업건축작품전을 선보였다. 건축가 김중업은 서양 현대건축을 한국에 도입하는데에 그치지 않고 건축가의 혼과 시적 울림을 담은 예술로서의 건축을 지향했다. 1965년 주한프랑스대사관으로 프랑스 국가공로훈장을 수여받은 후에도 다수의 수준 높은 건축물을 남겼다.
English: Kim Chung-up(1922-1988) is one of the most representative architects in Korea. known as a first-generation architect of contemporary Korea. From 1942 to 1944, he worked as an architect for Matsuda Hirata Sekkei(MHS) in Tokyo, then came back to Korea. He lectured at Seoul National University, Hanyang University, Ewha Womans University, and Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul. In 1952, he participated as a Korean delegate in the first International Conference of Artists in Venice, where Kim met world-renowned architect Le Corbusier and became the first Korean member at Le Corbusier's offivve "Atelier Le Corbusier" in Paris. while working for Le Corbusier, he executed approximately 326 architectural drawings for 12 projects. In 1956, he returned to Korea and opened his own atelier in Kwanhonn-dong, Seoul appointed professor in the Department of Architecture at Hongik University in Seoul. In April 1957, he presented his architectural works at his first solo exhibition, entitled "Kim Chung-up Architecture Exhibition." He play a crucial role in introducing modern Western architecture to Korea and in promoting the idea of architecture as art imbued with the architect's 'spirit' and 'poetic resonance'. In 1965, he received the French Chevalier de l'ordre National Du Mérite for designing French Embassy in Korea. Throughout his lifetime, he dedicated himself to a number of important architecture projects within Korea and internationally. |
