Drew, a mechanical en-gineer with offices at 68 Post Street, SanFrancisco, has addressed the followinginteresting letter to Mr. H. C. Butler,State Power Administrator, Flood Build-ing, San Francisco: Dear Sir: —In view of the fact that the avail-able supply of fuel oil is rapidly decreasing andthe price increasing at a very rapid rate, I feelconstrained to call your attention to the necessityfor conservation in the use of this oil and themeans by which such conservation can be ac-complished. Chemistry teaches us that there are certain de-fined hydrogen gases of a certain defined quantityor volume that are generated by the action of heatwhen applied to fuel oil that are not combustibleunless brought into direct contact and mingledwith a diffused and accurate volume of oxygenwhich can only be supplied by a certain accuratevolume of fresh air.
