Description
Español: Vista superior e inferior de una Argiope lobata hembra, el macho es de proporciones inferiores y se encuentra con menos frecuencia. Esta especia de araña se extiende por la Península Ibérica, especialmente en el sur, en áreas con presencia de flora media o baja. Suele ubicarse en las ramas bajas de los árboles o en las partes altas de los arbustos, en zonas de paso o pasillos entre plantas para capturar a su imprudente comida. Construye telarañas muy resistentes de cerca de medio metro de longitud.

En los círculos de la ilustración encontramos su alimentación: moscas, mosquitos y diferentes tipos de avispas, saltamontes, libélulas, arañas pequeñas y con menos frecuencia escorpiones pequeños y lagartijas.

Cuando alguna presa incauta cae en su red la araña se acerca rápidamente y le inyecta un veneno paralizante, después lo envuelve en seda y lo mantiene allí junto a las capturas anteriores hasta que necesita alimentarse.
