English: The dedicatory terracotta figurines from the sanctuary of Agia Irini (Eirini) in NW Cyprus are attributed to the period of this sanctuary, dating to the 7th-6th centuries B.C.
The figurines were found in situ deposited round the altar. A total of 2000 figurines, only two of which were female, were retrieved from this sanctuary excavated by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929. Its initial use is dated to the final phase of the Bronze Age (1200-1050 B.C.), but it continued in use until the 6th century B.C., when it was destroyed by a flood and was consequently abandoned. It was reused for only a short period in the 1st century B.C. A large number of figurines portray warriors and war chariots indicating the warship of a warrior god in the form of a centaur or minotaur. Figurines representing demon-servants of the god and snake representation symbolizing fertility may suggest a deity which was also identified with fertility and the underworld.
