Notes: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE GERMAN COLLECTION The present illustration is possibly from the Adi Parva of the epic where Arjuna goes into exile to atone for his errors and spends a year wandering the forests as an ascetic. Therefore he is depicted with a rosary in his hand despite being clad in his customary suit of armor.
