English: My house at 1437 N. Longfellow Street, in Arlington, when I had lived there a little over two years. I had removed the chain link fances around the yard very quickly. By this time, I had planted hypericum, as I had done in Annandale, and was trying to establish ground cover on the slope in front.

This was one of a large number of identical houses, which were built in the Westover section of Arlington around 1939, They were then "starter" homes for families. Many of them were owned by single people in the 1980s. Most of these house had additions by then. I was told that the addition on the right was built in the 1950s, by someone who designed a standard addition for these houses.

The small houses had a living room, dining room (!), and very small kitchen downstairs. A medium-size bedroom, very small bedroom, and bathroom were upstairs. The price in 1939 was $4,800, or $5,000 with a side porch.

I was driving a 1983 Ford then. It is in the driveway.
